The Island Gliders

  1. How large is the team?

    Our max is 35 competing athletes.

  2. Why is there a CAP on the number of athletes?

    We want to make sure that we give OUR ATHLETES all the attention that they deserve, and to do that we feel that working with a small group will give each athlete, regardless of there age, athletic ability or status the one on one development that they need.

  3. What ages do you accept?

    We accept ages 5-18 years of age.

  4. Are you members of any athletic organizations?

    Yes. We are members of the USATF (United States Association of Track and Field) North Carolina Association.

  5. When does the track season begin?

    Typically it begans the 1st of March and ends the 1st of August.  We do have conditioning training durning the month of Dec through the end of Feb.

Practice and Scheduled Meets

  1. How often do you practice

    3 days a week.. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 6:00pm - 7:30pm. (Days and Times are subject to change)

  2. What clothing do we need for practices

    All athletes should wear athletic clothing, such as; shorts/jogging pants, T-shirts, and running shoes. No skirts, jeans or basketball shoes are allowed on the track to practice in.

  3. Is practice cancelled if it rains?

    You can check the website for cancellations due to inclement weather.

  4. Where is practice held?

    You will be notified of the scheduled practice location or you can check the website for information.

  5. How many track meets are there?

    The number of meets vary annually.  A list of tentative meets will be given at the beginning of the season.  The information is also on the website.

  6. Will we have to travel?

    Yes... Depending on the schedule, we do travel with in the State of North Carolina.  If your athlete however advances to the regional and national meets, you can travel outside of the state.

  7. How is it determined what age my child will compete in?

    It is determined by the year they were born.  The age divisions are as follows: 6-8 years of age; 9-10 years of age; 11-12 years of age13-14 years of age15-16 years of age17-18 years of age.

Registration Info to Become and Island Glider

  1. How do I register my child to become an Island Glider

    Starting Jan 1 you can send an email to with your interest in your child becoming an Island Glider.  If space is available you will receive an information packet to complete and turn back in.  The athlete that has all their information turned in with associated  fees will be considered to have the available spot.

  2. Are Registration Fees Refundable?

    Registration fees and all associated track fees are nonrefundable.

  3. How do I pay ?

    All fees are paid by certified check, cash or money order. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS.

  4. What is the registration fee?

    There are no fees to register with the club.  The fees that are included are fees that are associated with participating in events, membership fees, and uniforms.  All information is inside Clubs packet.  More information can be given by calling 919-368-7063 or emailing
